You don't need validation. You need a verdict.
White Space is a research practice that tries to kill your idea before the market does. If it survives, you'll know exactly why — with every claim rated, sourced, and dated.
Research designed to break the hypothesis, not flatter it.
The hypothesis is written down before the research begins.
Including its kill conditions. If you can't say what would make you walk away, you aren't researching — you're shopping for reassurance.
Independent tracks attack the same idea from different angles.
Category, market, competition, customer — no pass sees another's conclusions. Agreement between blind passes is signal. Agreement between connected ones is contamination.
Nothing enters the record without a source and a date.
A verdict built on unrated claims is an opinion wearing a suit. Every finding carries its rating, and every line can defend itself.
The synthesis leads with a verdict — and names the single question that matters next.
Not a summary. Not a list of considerations. Lists of considerations are where decisions go to die.
Five phases. One verdict.
Discovery
We start with the person, not the market. Structured discovery from the founder: the problem as they actually live it, what they'd pay for, and what would make them walk away. The core mechanism of an idea usually hides under a feature list. We find it first.
Discovery record — the real idea, separated from its packaging.
Foundation
The project bible is written before the research begins. Falsifiable hypothesis. Customer persona. Five research questions. These documents exist so the research can't drift — and the goalposts can't move when the evidence arrives.
Foundation documents — the hypothesis in writing, with its kill conditions.
Disconfirmation
Parallel, independent research passes designed to break the hypothesis. Each pass attacks one research question in isolation. We look hardest for the evidence you least want to find.
Raw research records, one per pass, evidence-rated throughout.
Normalization
Research is worthless if it can't be interrogated. All findings normalized into a structured repository — consistent format, consistent ratings, every claim traceable to its source.
The repository — synthesis through evidence, fully traceable.
Verdict
The synthesis leads with the answer. Was the friction real? Is the gap unoccupied? What survived — the full hypothesis, a narrower seam, or nothing? And the one question to resolve before you spend another pound.
Synthesis document. Verdict first. One decision gate. A clear next move — including, when the evidence says so, don't build this.
We will try to kill your idea. If we can't, you'll know exactly why.
If we can, we'll have saved you the most expensive lesson in product development.
